I had the feeling the open beta that happened earlier this year gave players a good impression of MxM.

In order to get a toehold in the MOBA market, NCsoft would have to offer a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena that is, at least in a few aspects, better than League of Legends so that players would be willing to try it out. Since Riot Games is in this business several years longer than NCsoft and has a huge intellectual infrastructure they can draw from - while NCsoft has to start from zero - MxM is bound to go the way of WildStar. Mark my words :D

Well they have a decent shot if they get it going soon.
Dota2 still missing korean servers, the hoster of dota2 in china is fucked up (possibly new company will take over soon). Following in korea is low.
League is huge there though, but dropping in west and Riot is doing very strange things upsetting their community plenty. Dota2 will be king in eu/russia atleast, other markets are open :p

Thought whats missing is the next big mmo, but gl doing that with shareholders calling the shots. Probably need to develop for 10 years to make it huge. Gotta have a solid plan moving forward atleast 2-3 years after release so things dont feel rushed.

You could be right. If Riot Games really annoys the LoL players to a degree where they are rage-quitting, a ready MxM to receive those homeless children would be a big chance for NCsoft to make an incursion into the MOBA market.

As far as readiness is concerned, please note that the Lineage Eternal icon with the attached preview site, which has been on the NCKorea home page for several years, has been removed and replaced with MxM:
http://kr.plaync.com/
NCJapan also has already set up the MxM preview site on their home page (the leftmost on the sliding array):
http://www.ncsoft.jp/

As far as a next big MMO is concerned, I seriously doubt that any company would be willing to make such a huge investment, risking that after 10 years, i.e. 10 years of having spent money without earning any money, computer operating systems, youth leisure habits and the political situatin on this planet have fundamentally changed, making the original design obsolete. EVE Online is a stand-alone game, the MMO evolution of the 1978 Space Invaders arcade game. But all other MMOs seem to be just more of the same: Tank, Healer, sometimes Buffer, magical and physical, ranged and melee Damage Dealers. All more or less based on the Lord of the Rings, with skinny Elf types, robust Orc types, bland Human types. How about making a crafting-heavy Victorian England Steam Punk MMO, with Luddites against Industrialists, Marxists against Capitalists, Sepoys against Britain :D

Remember the current trend of MMOs is having no roles in order to make people have more chances to create random parties.

If WoW with only 3 roles (tanker, healer, DPS) has its players struggling to find tankers and healers alive, no wonder why Lineage 2 Classic failed miserably since you need to find a shitload of different buffers. As a result, only the CPs that are created even before the game release are still thriving in that outdated environment.

But the new people that just try the game don't last too long since finding certain classes for a party is even harder than in WoW.

Eliminating the roles will help the lives of these more causal players since they can just grab any random player no matter which class it is playing. Not that it is something new, Lineage 1 for example doesn't have proper roles but with Guild Wars 2 this trend just became stronger.

Also a big trend is having no support classes at all. I think at least B&S and BDO don't have such concept in its pure form. Everyone does damage.

and that's why for example games like L2 Classic is doomed to fail outside of Korea and the hardcore Russians as the Western mentality these days has only gotten worse and party set up's that require 4 different support classes just doesn't work anymore.

The truth was said here. It's laughable to see whinners on 4gamingforum blaming russian players for the failure of EU Classic, but don't realize that the party septups that L2C requires no longer work in the west.

western players fall too much behind russians/koreans when it comes to organizing cps like this. So russians come, dominate and eu players quit and blame them instead of adminting that they can't just deal with such cps full of supports and "off-party" classes to be competitive anymore.
