For oldtimers

Hey guys,

I'm a big lover of the chaotic chronicles and always searching for videos, forum discussions, fansites and infos from that time. I really believe there was 100 times more passion back then, community still had its bad apples but there was a quite significant portion that looked at the game from a romantic and adventurous angle. Pretty sure that having played some good quality games like Ultima Online or even single player CRPGs prior to lineage had its effect on them. Nowadays most of the community is either bitter losers of L2 that want to feel what it's like to be on top and take revenge for their past humiliation or previous FPS gamers who treat L2 like another frag deathmatch competition. IMO there is no love for the game itself, there is only love for what their image in the game will project onto the online world or scene. It's very sad...

But anyway... What I wanted to ask by creating this thread is some info regarding the 2004-2005 era of the game.

1. I read in the C2 patch notes located here

The duration of Greater Haste Potion and Greater Swift Attack Potion has been increased from 10 minutes to 20 minutes

Since there was no Seven Signs nor fishing in C2 how did such potions exist? Did castles make them?

2. I read on the Prelude Prima Guide that buffs like prophet buffs lasted 10minutes. Was this a typo or did they last half their "normal" time back then? And when did the change to 20 minutes happen if anyone remembers?

3. I found a korean fansite of a guy fascinated with abyss walkers from back in 2004-5 that had info of Critical buffs being calculated multiplicatively back then and not additively, so that a PW could go above 500 crit rate with just a focus dagger and focus 3. Can anyone confirm?

4. Was there a limit on stats back then like afterwards? I mean 500 crit, 1500 atk speed, 1999 cast speed, 250 run speed, etc

5. Did people level solely in groups without spamming shots mostly in OB-Prelude-C1 or is this an over exageration? And how did people gear up? I myself had to delevel 19->15->20 in order to get top NG during C4 and I had to hunt solo on TI spiders completely alone, the place was deserted for good...

6. Was there a drop/spoil rate nerf during Prelude (in contrast to OB)? I think I read that on warcry.com somewhere will try to find the link

7. Did u drop items even if you got PK'd or during PVP at the beginning of the game?

8. How did the whole clan war system with Personal Surrenders and Truce work back then?

9. Is it true that physical skills didn't use soulshots before C2-C3?

Well, hope I didn't tire you yet :P That's all I can remember for now that I was curious about. Ah and here are some videos of (C1 I believe?) Korean 5v5 I found just yersterday!

and 2 videos from C4 I think showcasing the classes

While I don't have any answer for you, I have one more question.

Don't you think the class names Bounty Hunter & Treasure Hunter ought to be switched ?

The dwarf is spoiling monsters, looking for treasures and riches

The human is a future adventurer, looking for people, adventures, and targets to kill

The way I thought about it is the BH is hunting for monsters that have a bounty on them like you see in Hunter's Village posters and the spoils/sweeps are the rewards so to speak :P And the TH is looking around for chests to open and find hidden treasures inside or something ;)

So the names kind of make some sense as they were. You know what is funny is the Prima Guide mentions the TH as Mercenary and the BH as Master Raider, those being the early names before they were "corrected" when game went past Beta if I am not mistaken. I wonder if Elmar can give us a more precise translation from the original Korean class names. Mercenary is closer to Bounty Hunter isn't it? Goes around to kill someone for a reward...

There never were Korean class names. Like the names of the skills, those always were English terms written in Korean letters (like "telephone" is τηλέφωνο written in Roman letters). Check this table from Chronicle 1:
http://lineage2.power.plaync.com/wiki/% ... A4#hd60840

오버로드 = Obeorodeu = Overlord, 워스미스 = Woseumiseu = Warsmith, 하트 오브 파아그리오 = Hateu obeu Pa'ageuri'o = Heart of Pa'agrio, 서먼 시즈 골렘 = Seomeon Sijeu Gollem = Summon Siege Golem ...

:D

Aha, so in Prelude the Bounty Hunter was officially already a Dwarf and the Treasure Hunter a Human, like in Korea.

I have read everything on that legacy lineage2 website and it still doesn't answer my questions :( the info there is too vague, I hoped I would find people that used to play the first chronicles to get some concrete information here...

:'(

edit: oh btw Elmar, was there a powerbook/powerwiki for chaotic chronicles? i can settle even for a japanese/chinese/whatever fansite if it gave more info than the cryptic official site, web.archive.org is great to visit vintage stuff

The Powerbook Wikipedia exists only since the Freya update. Before that there was a different website, similar to the NCWest one, with hunting grounds and monsters linked from the home page, but not in the articles themselves. That original website does not exist any more, but you will find the old patch notes, starting from Chronicle 1, linked here:
http://lineage2.power.plaync.com/wiki/% ... 0%EB%A6%AC

Kwondoh's fansite goes only back to 2008 and does not answer your questions either:

Actually I don't think that there were many fan sites back in 2004. If memory doesn't deceive me, blogs became fashionable only some years later. I guess memory is the main problem here. I myself have been playing Lineage 2 since Chronicle 3 (in China), but I certainly couldn't remember whether there was a cap on stats like Atk.Speed or details like that :)

ah dang :(

well from what you remember in C3, if u do :D , the old clanwar/alliance war system should still be in place, do you remember how it worked? And also can u tell me how did you see people exping back then, what classes were played mostly, did they care to full buff for pvp, did archers hit hard and kill with few shots like in c4, if u saw or heard any necros owning parties?

KnightOfDarkness should know much of these but he went inactive didn't he? :'(

C3 flavor of the month was necro / spellhowler using CDL to xp in TOI 10. I remind clan mates telling me they went there with enough supplies for one week on xp, and a dwarf logged off with supplies
