What is the future of NC West?

While not exactly about Lineage 2, I found the following topic interesting on reddit : Some thoughts from a Dev who worked with a Mobile Company which relied on RNG for income., and especially this comment

Just as a reminder, NCWest has a dedicated data tracking specialist too:

The NCSOFT data science group is building a platform to leverage cutting edge methods to make better games. Prior to joining NCSOFT Drew was a data scientist for the profile team at LinkedIn and a data analyst at KIXEYE. Drew's background is in economics and behavioral analysis.

I just saw Juji on Fantasy Island giving out GM Buffs and chatting with players. So he is still working for NCWest and involved with Lineage 2. yeah he, neutron & conguero were all 3 at those buff events so we'll see

I just saw this in the Chronos section of the official forum:

I have no idea who the players in the screenshot are, but Juji's statement means that he knows which clan has a castle and which clan not. In other words, he is still deeply involved with Lineage 2, either privately as an unknown player (be wary of what you say in world chat!), or as a kind of GM, keeping an eye on the forums and/or the servers.

Maybe he just figured that anyone asking a GM to join their clan for a siege would probably on the attacking side and not on the defense.

This thread is still alive, and some interesting things I've read. :)

As I was saying in other thread, I've spent a lot of time with another NCSoft game, Aion. A lot of things happened this year, not necessarily for the good.

First, I've to correct some post from some pages back, about Aion. This year they revamped the game in Korea, the update still not here yet. They didn't cut a zero from the kinah (currency like adena), they removed the kinah entirely from all players, converted to some other currency, depending of how much you had, and you can use it for some in game shop to buy consumables, which is not the cash shop itself. NC first mistake. After the patch went live, Koreans complained they don't have kinah for teleports and basic npc items, and as mobs don't drop any, you have to do quests and such but still painful. So shortly after that NC gave everyone a small amount, depending of how much you had. They also removed the possibility of trading kinah between players, so they don't hoard it anymore by using alts, but you can still "trade" it by buying and selling stuff through broker.

After seeing how L2 revamped adena problem, I can say it wasn't necessarily bad as an idea but it's badly executed. I remember a time when I didn't have enough for teleports or shots but in the same time a lot of players were like me, so we grouped together. They should have converted all the adena to some other stuff, do a hard reset, as now it seems people are exploiting the one that hoarded trillions of adena, by setting these insane prices, while the others have no chance of acquiring that stuff with these prices. People with trillions can solo anything and set certain (misleading) standards for the rest of the community.

Along with the revamp of Aion in January, they made their game f2p in Korea. It was p2p until December last year, with cash shop. A lot of the changes in the game are good, like no more unlimited enchants on gear, but some of the things are bad, as being purely cash shop items like transforms and other things. If until last year someone with 500-1k euro could get end game gear in Aion EU through broker and players, after the revamp in Korea, some of the Koreans spent 6k-8k usd alone only on getting the highest transform from the cash shop, which is obtainable by rng. Will see how it is when it comes overseas. The point is, there is a big leap from how much people spent in the past and how much people spent this year. Aion is still not the game L2 has turned into, where you need 10k-30k usd to make you character, as I remember 4 years ago in L2 (don't know how it's now), and gear progression is still through in game meanings and untradable, but it's worse than before with the cash shop, and so people have complained.

Two petitions have been made this year after Aion 6.0 release.

One is more Aion related: https://www1.president.go.kr/petitions/104894
signed by 2021 players, date is 19/02/2018

Reckless gameplay and billing inducement game

It's no wonder that every company that makes a Korean game creates company profits
System introduction that can not be done without charge
I have been loving the "Aion" game for 9 years and now the game has been turned into a mobile game (huge billing induction).
We have come to the point where we can not play games unless we break down the balance between story and character in game and we do not charge.
South Korea games can not do without cash now
I have been playing games and hobbies for a long time.
I would like you to investigate and play American games for your content, not for gambling.

A second petition is more about NCSoft and Nexon: https://www1.president.go.kr/petitions/104938
signed by 3579 players, date is 19/02/2018

Google translated

It states that the in-game property rights belong to the game company, not the gamer,
Despite the fact that game companies own the property rights,
Mass production of billing contents (aka cash charge inducing contents)
To induce consumers (gamers) to spend,
By period (every 3 to 6 months), you can induce another charge through new update,
The compensation is not done properly, and the consumer does not have the right to know (information disclosure) at all.

Games like NCsoft's Lineage, Lineage M, Aion, and Blade and Soul have already started billing content for a number of years
It starts to mass-produce, and by updating the billing content by quarterly and periodically, which makes it impossible to use existing contents any more,
We are inducing the bill again.

Dear President, The Ministers, the Deputy Heads,
Korea's status as a 21st-century gaming powerhouse has been on the forefront of game companies such as NCsoft and Nexon
Korean game has a stigma that cash rush (quality, cash charge) is essential.
The glamorous Korean game culture is now coming to a point where it is not possible to maintain the cash transaction, the cash charge, or the like.
I think games are another society.
In reality and in another virtual world, people meet,
As a place to improve empathy and share membership,
In addition, it is a place of communication such as sharing life together with friends
It is getting ruined by contents malicious induction of cash charge of two companies of the mammoth grade.
Please enforce strict charge content regulation.
It's been a long time since so many people have already brought money into their pocketbooks in their pockets.
There is no proper regulation, and consumers (users) are just being treated with chrysanthemums in front of the tyranny of game companies.
In addition, the game development team and the management team that have already raised several suspicions exchanged the cost information of the gamer with the other users
There are enemies who have been abused a number of times, such as helping to gain more profits.
Please enforce strict regulations.

Players in Korea are kinda fed up with what their games have turned into. Another thing about Aion in Korea, is that most players chose the two new servers with this revamp, and some quit after a month or so. The old servers remained empty and they are now scheduled for another merge (had one last year). On the other hand, players in NA/EU are expecting this patch like it would be the "salvation" of Aion, and hope NC&GF wouldn't somehow butcher it and make it p2w, when it's already more p2w in Korea than it was before.

End of my big rant. tl;dr: NC screwed up even more.

It is, but while I could understand censure about topics regarding their own actions, I would not have expected censure for something which is not making them in cause directly :)
